Vincent van Gogh

Vincent van Gogh was born in Dutch Brabant and started his career as an art trader with 'Goupil & Cie in The Hague. His artistic career started out by self-teaching while living in Brussels in 1880. One year later he moved to The Hague to Anton Mauve who taught him how to use Aquarell and Oil paint. In 1885 he moved back to his parents and lived in a rural environment. There he painted the now famous 'The potato eaters'.

Looking for more sun, more colour and for a warmer climate van Gogh started moving south. First he lived in Antwerp, later in Paris aiming for Marseille in his travels. He ended up stayin in the small town of Arles, buying a property to use for his studio.

This location is where van Gogh developed the style we now all know as 'The van Gogh Style'. Unsing bright colours and natural contrasts like green & red, blue & orange, sulfur yellow & purple.
